The Lions are in a rich vein of form following a stunted start to 2021, with their eyes now firmly fixed on a top four spot.

Despite this, no team is ever perfect and even the Lions could use some reinforcements - either in the upcoming trade period or medium-term future.

We continue our ‘Five trade targets for every club' series with the Brisbane Lions. The idea of these stories is to identify potentially gettable targets who could fill roles, not just link every club to the likes of Marcus Bontempelli and Patrick Cripps.

FIVE TRADE TARGETS FOR: Adelaide Crows, Carlton

So in no particular order, here is it – five players we think Brisbane should have on their hit list.

5. Jason Johannisen

The third and final Dogs player on this list is 2016 Norm Smith medalist Jason Johannisen. The 28-year-old South African was left out of the Bulldogs lineup for the opening game of season 2021, with his position in the best 22 questioned. Since then, Johannisen has regained his spot in the side but hasn't been at his best.

The half-back's contract expires at the end of season 2022, and it will be interesting to see whether or not the Dogs fight to retain him. Given his uncertainty in their side, you can imagine rivals will do their due diligence on his availability.

The Lions could very much use Johannisen's run out of defence, with the aforementioned Birchall and Rich not getting any younger. A half-back pairing of him and teammate Ed Richards would be deadly for the Lions, with 'JJ's' thumping kicking being ideal for Chris Fagan's side.
