How the AFL Player Ratings work
The AFL Player Ratings are a live, fan-driven ranking of the best players across every position. Powered by votes from the AFL Player Rater, these rankings reflect real opinions from fans comparing players in head-to-head matchups.
Players are only matched against others in their primary position, ensuring accurate comparisons across their position: defender, midfield, forward and ruck. This allows fans to clearly identify the best AFL players head-to-head by position.
Our rankings are calculated using an Elo rating system, where every player starts equal and moves up or down based on results. Beating a higher-rated opponent significantly boosts a player's ranking, while losing to a lower-rated player results in a larger drop.
