West Coast mid-season draftee Marcus Herbert has recommitted to the West Eagles, signing a new two-year deal to remain at the club till 2028 amid rival interest.
Herbert joined the Eagles in May, selected at pick 13, after multiple strong seasons with Geelong's VFL side.
The 24-year-old had reported interest from Carlton, who also offered Herbert a two-year deal, but he has recommitted to the club that took a chance on him.
“I'm stoked to be in the blue and gold for another couple of seasons,” Herbert said.
“The future is bright with the crew we have, so it will be very exciting to see what we can do in the coming years.
“Everyone has been so helpful, on and off the field; players, coaches and staff have made the move really easy, and I'm excited to stay.”
The defender made his debut for the Eagles in round 15 against North Melbourne, and went on to play 10 consecutive games, cementing his place in the senior side.
The best game of his short career so far came in Round 20 in his first Western Derby, where he racked up a game-high 36 disposals, eight marks and 395 metres gained.
Matt Clarke, head of Eagles list management and recruiting, was impressed by his impact on the club in such a short time.
“Marcus has settled in exceptionally well and has already made a strong impact on our group both on and off the field,” Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said
“He drives strong standards around his preparation and will now look to a strong AFL pre-season.
“We're excited about his future and look forward to seeing his continued growth and development as a player over the coming years.”
Hebert chatted to Zero Hanger earlier in the year ahead of his mid-season drafting, discussing the pain of being overlooked and what motivated him to continue pushing towards the AFL.
