Melbourne high performance manager Selwyn Griffith has departed the Dees after six seasons at the club and will join Richmond as the Tigers' new high performance manager.

Richmond had been on the hunt for a new high performance manager after several dour seasons from an injury front.

Tigers coach Adem Yze said he was excited for a man of Griffith's experience to start working with the club's litany of young players.

“Selwyn is amazing at his job,” Yze said.

“He is a really smart operator. He will get his arms around our boys. He loves training, I spoke to him yesterday and he was running around.

“It is a real key pillar to our football club, and it is at any football club.

“Selwyn has earned his status, he is one of the top high-performance managers in the league.

“We are super excited. I know what he can do technically and tactically, and he is a great person as well.

“No doubt if you walked past Waverley (in the coming weeks), you would see him out there with our players, which is terrific.”

Melbourne chief of football and innovation Ned Guy praised Griffith for his impact on the club since joining the Dees as head of strength and conditioning ahead of the flag-winning 2021 season.

“Selwyn has been an important part of our football program across the past six seasons,” Guy said.

“He has led our high-performance program and worked closely with our players, coaches and football staff to ensure our players are prepared to perform at the highest level each week.

“Selwyn was also part of the 2021 AFL Premiership campaign and has contributed across an important period for our football program."

Griffith has an impressive resume with previous experience as a performance coach at the Brisbane Lions. He also served as the Lions' osteopath and athletic development and rehabilitation coach.
