This was a hotly contested rematch of the 2016 Grand Final in which the Dogs got out to a 22-point lead in the second term before Sydney burst to a late three goal lead.

The Dogs finished the stronger of the two and had their chances to steal the game late before Ollie Florent took the ball from the wing inside-50 and nailed it to seal the victory, running at full pace to kick an outstanding solo goal.

Superstar Lance Franklin kicked three goals including an important last quarter goal as he moved up the all time goalkicking leaderboard.
