Melbourne champion Garry Lyon says there will need to be questions asked of Port Adelaide should they lose both Jared Polec and Chad Wingard in the off-season, following their aggressive movement last year.

The Power signed Jack Watts, Steven Motlop and Tom Rockliff last year but failed to play in September in 2018, losing six of their last seven games to miss the eight.

Speaking on SEN, Lyon criticised the output of the new recruits.

"All three of them were carrying baggage, they were all baggage carriers," Lyon said.

"I’d probably swap all of them for Jared Polec.

"If Wingard and Polec go out having brought in Watts, Motlop and Rockliff, I’d be asking some questions," he added.

Co-host on SEN, Tim Watson agreed saying the Power's moves to pursue a premiership had failed thus far.

"It looks a bust," Watson said.

"They don’t make the finals when we all expected that they would and that they were cracking towards finals.

"Late in the season they fall off the cliff, and their big name recruits: Motlop, Watts and Rockliff – neither of them finish in the top 10 (Best and Fairest)."
