Sydney rookie Elijah Taylor has been arrested and taken into custody by WA police and will face court this month over alleged assault charges.

The 19-year-old West Australian was taken by police on Sunday afternoon just before 1:30pm.

According to Foxfooty.com.au, Taylor was charged with unlawful assault - causing bodily harm with circumstances of aggravation and is scheduled to appear in court on September 30.

Meanwhile Swans coach John Longmire confessed that they were aware of Taylor's arrest during a post-match press conference after his sides loss to the Lions on Sunday night

"We're aware of a report but have no comment on it."

"We're just aware of a report and I'm sure you'll respect the fact that I've been coaching, so no comment" he said after being asked for more details.

Taylor is also being investigated for allegations made against him by his former partner.

The AFL integrity unit is investigating the incident which allegedly happened in Sydney, prior to Taylor and the woman breaking hub protocols in Perth.

Taylor was staying with his family in WA following his suspension for the breach of COVID-19 restrictions.
