St Kilda midfielder David Armitage has been ruled out of the Saints' clash with West Coast on Saturday due to a groin injury.

The veteran midfielder felt sore following his side's loss to Melbourne last weekend, and will join Nick Riewoldt in watching Saturday's match from the sidelines.

“Unfortunately Dave Armitage pulled up sore in the groin from that game and will miss this week,” Saints GM of Football Performance Jamie Cox told saints.com.au on Tuesday night.

“It’s not one we think is too serious and he should only miss a week or two.”

His absence may be filled by veteran half-back Leigh Montagna, who is a chance to return to the senior side after a calf strain kept him out of the entire JLT Community Series.

“On the positive side Leigh Montagna had some really good minutes in the VFL at the weekend and looks as though he’ll be fit to be considered for selection,” Cox said.
