Former Port Adelaide Power defender Jarrod Lienert has been handed the final spot on the St Kilda Saints list for the 2022 season.

On the final day of the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period, Lienert was handed the deal to give him another chance in the AFL.

The club announced the news in a tweet, with Lienert saying he was "grateful" for the opportunity.

"I'd just like to say how excited I am to officially be a part of the Saints family for 2022," Lienert said in the tweet.

"I've really enjoyed my first three weeks of training at the club and I'm so grateful for the opportunity."

Lienert was part of the Saints practice match against Carlton last week, and also played in the intra-club match last month, impressing the club's brass.

The 27-year-old, who was drafted in 2017 at number 42, managed 22 games for Port Adelaide during his three years with the club, being let go at the end of 2021.

List manager at the Saints James Gallagher said he would improve the club's defensive stocks.

โ€œWeโ€™re pleased to be able to give Jarrod another opportunity at AFL level,โ€ Gallagher said.

โ€œWe believe Jarrodโ€™s skillset and ability to play as both a medium and tall defender, as well as push up further along the wing, will add further depth to our defensive stocks.

โ€œAs weโ€™ve seen this week, injuries can occur at any time and Jarrod will be a handy option for us to have throughout the year.

โ€œIn the short time heโ€™s been at the club, heโ€™s gelled well with his teammates and coaches and we look forward to seeing the impact heโ€™ll continue to bring as we approach Season 2022.โ€

The club also announced he would be handed the number 31 jersey.
