The three-time reigning premiers do not want for much on the surface, brimming with depth and expected to again contend in 2027.

But a couple of positional needs have emerged which they will be keen to address. The Lions have been linked heavily to a Victorian and will be keen to welcome in another academy talent.

Draft hand: 21, 27, 28, 45, 79, 97, 115

The focus of the Lions during the player movement period was ensuring either they put themselves in a position to match a bid for Academy star Caylen Murray – or at least put themselves in a position to get the necessary draft capital.

Brisbane was otherwise reasonably quiet, albeit typically driving a hard bargain for exiting pair Keidean Coleman and Will McLachlan.

List needs

Halfback: Dayne Zorko is in the twilight of his career, Conor McKenna's future is uncertain and Coleman has departed for Essendon which leaves their halfback line a touch thin in the long term for a team of such quality. The Lions generate so much of their punch from the back half so Chris Fagan's successor will certainly want halfback depth.

Small forward: It sounds like this is an area of the ground Brisbane is targeting. Charlie Cameron is 32, so some help for Kai Lohmann and Zac Bailey could prove useful. Particularly given the latter pair are not small forwards in the truest sense, but more so powerful hybrid medium forwards.

Potential targets:

Caylen Murray: Murray is the obvious name to consider here. The speedster is expected to fetch a top 10 bid and with Pick 21 and 27 Brisbane could match a bid at Pick 9 onwards given the 20 per cent tax for reaching the Preliminary Final makes it harder for clubs to match a bid. He is a halfback but has expressed a keenness to follow a similar path to Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, going into the midfield long-term as an effective transition player. Ensuring they have the capital to get Murray will affect who else they are able to get.

Marlon Neocleous: Has been heavily linked to the Lions and he's likely to be available at Pick 28 when they will enter the draft following the matched bid for Murray. Even if they package 28 up with one of 21 or 27 to move up the order and thus don't enter the order until 45, he may still be on the board, having slid in the latter stages of the season. A small forward who is a conduit between defence and attack, he is a smart and strong footballer who sees the game well in the forward half and can kick goals.

Zac Antonellos: Another player in the vein of Neocleous, Antonellos, like Neocleous is somewhat lower than what he would otherwise be due to injury but is a damaging and dynamic forward half threat who gets involved in scoring chains and possesses composure, decision-making and good disposal efficiency.
