North Melbourne has farewelled Jack Ziebell and Jordan Russell to alternative ventures following respected tenures at Arden Street, while also promoting from within its development department.

Ziebell, who capped his 280-game Kangaroos playing career this year, had also undertaken a Roos AFLW assistant coaching position. On Friday, North announced Ziebell would be relinquishing that role in favour of a full-time assistant coaching position with Richmond, under new senior coach Adem Yze.

Meanwhile, Russell, who has been coaching North Melbourne's midfielders in conjunction with head mentor Alistair Clarkson, has officially departed to return to the club he played 116 games with; Carlton. The midfield specialist joined the Roos' ranks in 2021.

North Melbourne football boss Todd Viney expressed his thanks to the pair for their contributions to the Shinboners.

"Jordan has been an outstanding contributor to the AFL program as our midfield coach over the past three years and has built some great relationships here," Viney said as part of a North Melbourne club statement on Friday.

"Jack has also been a great asset to our AFLW program over the past few months with his wealth of playing and leadership experience, in addition to his long-standing connection to the club as a 280-game player and former captain.

"We wish both Jordan and Jack the best in their next chapter."

In the meantime, VFL playing assistant Jarrod Lienert has been promoted to Indigenous Player Development Manager, working under new Head of Development Michael Barlow.

Viney stated his pleasure in seeing Lienert -- who last year capped a playing career that spanned tenures at St Kilda and Port Adelaide -- step up into the new position.

"Jarrod is a qualified teacher and has already built great relationships with our players and staff as a playing assistant coach in our VFL program this year," Viney said.

"Jarrod has worked hard to earn this opportunity and we're really pleased to have him in this critical role."
