Tom Papley is set to request to be traded to Carlton according to The Herald Sun’s Sam Edmund.

The Blues have been in a head-to-head battle with North Melbourne for Papley’s signature, but they are reportedly prepared to offer the small forward more money.

The 23-year old has met with both clubs as he seeks a move back to Melbourne, but it is believed that he will nominate the Blues as his club of choice.

North Melbourne has the space to up their offer, but that will be unlikely given they believe Papley is destined to join the Blues.

Contrary to previous reports, the Roos' offer is in the vicinity of $500,000-$600,000 rather than the $800,000 that had been rumoured previously.

Papley kicked 37 goals this season and was a livewire up forward for the Swans, but he has been unsettled at times in the Harbour City and is keen to move down south.

The Herald Sun also reports that Papley's contract trigger is only relevant if he chooses to activate it, which if he did choose to activate, he would be tied to the Swans until the end of 2023.

Papley's guaranteed Swans contract runs until the end of 2021.
