The Carlton Football Club is facing the prospect of missing out on hosting their customary Round 1 AFLW clash, as their Princes Park facility continues to undergo a significant facelift.

As first reported by Sarah Black of womens.afl, the Blues have an uphill battle on their hands to play their season opener at home due to the demolition of the Richard Pratt Stand that was situated on the CBD side of the former AFL venue.

Unless temporary lighting was erected for the yet-to-be-scheduled contest, Black stated that the lack of necessary lighting for the after-dark contest would likely put a halt to standard procedures

Still, as the venue has previously come under criticism for being dimly lit in the past, plans to move the opener elsewhere are likely to be drafted.

Since the commencement of the burgeoning competition in 2017, Princes Park has hosted four of the first five season openers, with Kardinia Park providing an alternative in 2019.

Carlton isn't the only AFLW club under construction-based duress ahead of the league's sixth season, as the Nick Dal Santo-led Saints are also facing the prospect of an interrupted fixture.

With Moorabbin Oval currently receiving major turf updates, St Kilda is currently in a bind as to where they will play their home matches from January onwards.

However, Black also believed that a request to start their season on the road before hosting a backlog of games at Linton Street in the second-half of the Summer season.

If this proposal isn't looked upon favourably, VFL venues Frankston City Oval and Trevor Barker Beach Oval in Sandringham could also be utilised.

Given the mooted starting date of January 6 or 7, there is also likely to be arm-wrestles with several Cricketing competitions for the rights to use venues such as Kardinia Park, The Showgrounds, Docklands, The Gabba, Adelaide Oval and York Park in Launceston.

The fixture for the 2022 AFLW season is expected to be released prior to the start of December, so the league's scheduling team still has upwards of a fortnight to iron out any kinks.
