AFL fans and gamers can start getting excited, as it appears the next AFL video game is nearing its release.

As discovered by Reddit user u/minimme, a video game titled AFL23 has been added to the Australian classification registry.

The game has been rated G, with consumers advised that it contains very mild coarse language, online interactivity, in-game purchases and chat.

While an official release date is yet to be confirmed, the Big Ant Studios product will be available on PC, Playstation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, Xbox Series and Playstation 5 (PS5)

Notably, Nintendo Switch consoles are missing from this list.

Last September, fans had the chance to test a demo of the game at the Footy Festival surrounding the MCG.

Footage and official gameplay captured by Press Start Australia was unveiled that week.

Previous AFL video games include AFL Evolution, AFL Challenge and the nostalgic AFL Premiership and AFL Live series'.

It's unknown if AFL23 is a placeholder title, but with the number 23 in the title, we can expect the game to release this year, and perhaps a yearly release cycle like most other sports games.
