For the second consecutive year, Demon Andy Moniz-Wakefield has had his season ended by an ACL injury.

It's the three-letter acronym no athlete wants to hear after a scan, but that's the nightmarish reality endured by the 22-year-old, once again.

Moniz-Wakefield missed the entirety of the Demons' 2025 campaign after sustaining an ACL injury in the February of that year, and now, a recurrence of the injury has befallen him in just his second game back from that rehabilitation.

The injury is believed to have been sustained in the dying minutes of his side's ugly loss at the hands of the GWS Giants, in Alice Springs, with the Red and Blue facing questions around the viability of selling games away from Melbourne, now seemingly back in a contending window.

The Demons' NGA prospect turned Category B rookie had his leg buckle when attempting to change direction. The non-contact nature of the injury was the first sign something seriously wrong had occurred.

Still just eight games into his career, Moniz-Wakefield has shown glimpses of the player he promises to become, since his 2024 debut.

It's the latest curveball thrown the storied club this year; Steven King's side claimed three players at last week's Mid-Season Rookie Draft, after injuries like Jai Culley's devastating ACL, and the surprise retirements of premiership player Steven May, among others, opened up list spots at Casey Fields.
