Carlton small forward Jesse Motlop said it's a "great honour" to be selected in the Indigenous All-Stars team, following in the footsteps of his mercurial father, Daniel, and his uncles Shannon and Steven.

Motlop has begun forging his career at the Blues and is earmarked for a prominent role inside 50 for the upcoming campaign, following the departure of fellow goalsneak Matt Owies to West Coast.

With Motlop's sights set on the year ahead, the upcoming marquee clash on February 15 at Optus Stadium against Fremantle is something the 21-year-old will hold dear to his heart.

"It's a great honour," Motlop said on Tuesday from the club's Bendigo community visit.

"I've mentioned it a few times but the old man (Daniel Motlop) has played in a few of these games.

"To be able to carry on that tradition and play in this game is, not only special for the family, but the greater community of Indigenous Australians."

Daniel Motlop played 130 games across 11 seasons for North Melbourne and Port Adelaide, proving to be one of the most exciting talents.

Daniel played in three Indigenous All-Stars clashes, featuring in the 2003, 2007 and 2009 outings.

The Blues youngster's selection is the eighth of his family, following uncles Shannon (two) and Steven (one), and the cousin of his father, Marlon (one).

The vacancy up forward alongside Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow has long been up for grabs, and yet, Motlop has had to bide his time, dealing with nagging injuries and form.

Since featuring in the final seven games of Carlton's 2024 campaign, the South Fremantle product has continued the momentum into the pre-season, laying confidence in his body to withstand the rigours of AFL football.

"It's good at the moment," Motlop continued. "Feeling pretty fit and confident and ticked off all the time trials and skin folds.

"Obviously, last year was frustrating, you could say, and like I said, things happen in the game.

"But (I'll) keep putting my best foot forward."
