Collingwood president Jeff Browne has outlined what's required of star Jordan De Goey for the midfielder to earn a new deal past the 2022 season.
De Goey looms as the Magpies' next key retention target at the AIA Centre following defender Darcy Moore's decision to turn down "big offers" from elsewhere to sign on until the end of the 2027 season.
The 26-year-old had a heavily interrupted pre-season, having been charged with harassment following an altercation at a New York bar last October.
After eventually returning to his duties with the club in January, De Goey has found career-best form on the field, averaging 23 disposals, 4.75 clearances and 10 contested possessions per game.
Speaking on 3AW, Browne said the Ashburton product remains a "valuable player" to the Magpies and will need to continue his place as a "model citizen" to secure his future at Collingwood.
"Jordan simply needs to do what he's doing," Browne said on Monday.
"He's not only playing great football, he's been a model citizen around our club. He's been welcomed back by the group, he's done everything the coaches have asked of him. He's a valuable Collingwood player.
"There are a number of players on our list to be re-signed, and Jordan's one of them."
De Goey joins the likes of Jamie Elliott, Josh Daicos, Mason Cox, Oliver Henry, Finlay Macrae, Steele Sidebottom and Caleb Poulter in being unsigned for next season, with the Magpies looking to continue their busy season of re-signings.
Collingwood announced new deals for six players earlier this month, headlined by the retention of Moore for a further five years.
Browne revealed that the Magpies quickly swooped on finalising Moore's signature in order to stave off lucrative deals from rival clubs.
"We did chase the signature for Darcy, and the reason we did that was because he was the subject of even bigger offers by other clubs," Browne added.
"In the same week we signed him, we signed five other players.
"We're moving through the process."
The Magpies will be cautious not to repeat their mistakes of 2020, which saw required players in Adam Treloar, Jaidyn Stephenson and Tom Phillips all depart through the trade window due to a salary cap "crisis".
Browne has vouched that history won't repeat itself under his reign as president.
"What I'm determined to do is make sure that Collingwood doesn't get into a position it was, where it had to eject players because of a salary cap crisis," he said.
"That won't happen again under my watch."
