Melbourne can still afford to keep key ruckman Luke Jackson despite Angus Brayshaw's new six-year deal announced this morning.

Speaking on Triple M Footy, reporter Tom Browne revealed the Demons remain a chance to add Jackson's signature to their signing spree.

"It (Brayshaw's new deal) obviously changes the free agency market significantly," Browne said.

"Does it mean Melbourne can still afford Luke Jackson? Yes, is the view from Melbourne directly.

"Sources there tell me this Brayshaw deal and the Jackson deals are completely separate, that’s their position.

"I take that at face value.

"It won't necessarily preclude them from re-signing Luke Jackson."

Having been picked up at No.3 in the 2019 draft and taking out the 2021 Rising Star Award, Jackson is sure to attract a big-money deal no matter which club he's at.

He is now the biggest name out of contract at the Demons and remains the target of both Western Australian-based clubs, with Fremantle considered the frontrunner. The club is "extremely confident" that they will be able to secure him in a blockbuster trade at season's end.

According to the Herald Sun, the Dockers are set to offer Jackson between $800,000 - $900,000 per season in a long-term deal that could be up to six years in length, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
