Adelaide has farewelled Chris Burgess from the football club following the completion of the 2025 trade period.

Burgess was traded to the Crows at the end of 2023 from Gold Coast and played eight games for Adelaide across two seasons.

He spent five years at the Suns, featuring in 36 matches.

"Chris is a quality person who always displayed a really high level of professionalism both on and off the field," Crows GM List Management Justin Reid said.

"Whatever comes next for him, we wish Chris and his partner Nicci all the best for the future."

His departure is likely linked with the acquisition of North Melbourne's Finnbar Maley, which was confirmed on Wednesday's deadline day during the trade period.

Adelaide secured Maley and Pick 64, sending the Kangaroos Pick 57 and a 2026 fourth-round selection.

The imminent arrival of Brisbane dual premiership player Callum Ah Chee also put a squeeze on spots in the Crows' forward line.

Adelaide and the Lions failed to come to terms on an agreement, but the West Lakes club has committed to signing Ah Chee through the pre-season draft.

"Both Cal, the Club, and his management are all committed to seeing this through," Reid said.

"We have a plan, we are committed to Cal, Cal and his management are committed to us.

"We understand what that looks like. Firstly, it's around the welfare and support of Cal and his family, so we'll just take a deep breath and work through that.

"We put our best foot forward with what we think was a fair and reasonable deal…At the end of the day, the deal wasn't done, and we are just going to have to take the long route now."

Burgess joins Matt Crouch (retired), Karl Gallagher (delisted), Lachlan Murphy (delisted), Harry Schoenberg (delisted), Brodie Smith (retired), and Kieran Strachan (delisted), leaving the club.
