AFL jumpers are some of the hottest pieces of sporting merchandise sold in Australia, with footy fans nationwide snapping them up to show their loyal support for their club.

Unlike soccer, AFL clubs don't change their jumper design on a yearly basis, with some clubs not changing their jumpers for an entire stint that they spend with an apparel manufacturer.

Therefore, there isn't a massive incentive to buy a new jumper every year to keep up with the times, however this doesn't stop clubs from making a fair chunk of cash off their merchandise every year.

However, as showcased by Gambling.com, there is a bit of differentiation between the most expensive jumper and the least expensive jumper between certain clubs.

Adelaide top out the list, charging $125 for both men's and women's shirts, and $110 for a youth jumper, levelling out to an average price of $120 for a jumper.

Cross-town rivals Port Adelaide are second only by charging $10 less for a youth jumper, with their average being $116.67, as is the Swans'.

From there the big Victorian clubs in the form of Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Melbourne, North Melbourne and Richmond all charge a tad above $113 on average for a jumper, before the likes of Hawthorn, St Kilda and Brisbane come in a bit under that.

In the sub-100 club, the Perth teams in West Coast and Fremantle come in at $96.67 and $93.33 respectively before Geelong claims the title of the cheapest jumper with the price of an adult jumper being just $100.

When looking at average prices based on manufacturers, there doesn't seem to be a noticeable pattern in terms of one brand being more expensive than the other.

If there is any, Nike (Sydney and Collingwood) and Puma (Carlton, North Melbourne, Richmond, GWS) seem to price their apparel a bit higher than average.

Despite this, the decision evidently sits with clubs about what price they set their jumpers at, with both Adelaide (O'Neill) and Port (Macron) clearly believing their apparel is valued slightly higher than the rest of the competition.

However, when compared to other sporting leagues worldwide, footy fans have little reason to complain in terms of prices being paid for apparel.

It's American sports that charge the most with NHL and NFL jerseys topping the list with their average price being $171 and $159 respectively, whilst the likes of the MLB and NBA also come in at an average of $148 and $144.

The Premier League comes in at $114 before the AFL chimes in at just $108, exemplifying that it could be a lot worse should clubs choose to hike prices.
