AFL chief Gillon McLachlan says a twilight grand final in inevitable.

While McLachlan said the timing of next season's grand final is yet to be confirmed, he admitted it is unlikely that it will remain at its current 2.30pm time slot for long.

"More and more people think it's a chance to enhance the event," McLachlan said on radio station Triple M on Friday.

"You're not pushing it back late at night. Kids could still go to a twilight game. It would be a bigger, bolder experience and clearly it would have an impact on television."

However, McLachlan stopped short of saying when the change will occur.

"If you took a long-term view, it's inevitable, but it's a question of when and it's to do with the composition of the commission, the presidents and others in the industry who have their views."

  1. More and more people hey Gillon? Can you present some evidence to support your views? Or is it more to do with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?

Just another example of the AFL not caring about fans of the game. I love the line about kiddies still able to go to the twilight game when club members are largely excluded from grand final day at the expense of corporate interests. I understand the AFL is a corporation and seeking to maximise it’s financial clout, but what I take issue with is the seeming disrespect towards the fans and traditions of the game. Oh, and showing less games on free to air TV next year plain stinks. I can’t go to games because a back injury restricts what I can do physically. Now there will be less chance to watch footy as I don’t have foxtel. Asshole.
