Gold Coast successfully downgraded Ben Long's two-game suspension to one week for his brutal hit on Collingwood's Brayden Maynard.

Long and the Suns were able to reduce the rough conduct charge from high to medium impact, meaning he'll miss Saturday night's clash with Adelaide but be available in Round 18 against the Bulldogs.

Gold Coast argued Maynard is not missing any games due to the contest, and he laid crunching tackles after the incident.

The Western Bulldogs overturned Mathew Kennedy's one-match suspension for a high bump on Sydney's Caiden Cleary.

The Dogs argued to the tribunal that the forceful front-on contact should be downgraded from medium impact to low.

Kennedy is now free to play this weekend against West Coast with the suspension being lowered to a $2000 fine.

The Bulldogs had seven reasons for why the impact should be downgraded: The fact that Kennedy turned his body, slowed momentum, stayed low, that the contact is to Kennedy's back not hip or shoulder, that the contact is made when Cleary's head is not bent over 90 degrees but between 45-90 degrees, the medical report which cleared Cleary and that Cleary immediately got up and continued to play.

The 29-year-old midfielder elected to bump Cleary on the edge of the Swans' forward 50 arc. Kennedy bumped him high, but Cleary passed his HIA assessment and played out the match.

Kennedy was handed a one-game ban by match review officer Michael Christian on Saturday.

The incident was originally deemed as forceful front-on contact and graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.
