Brisbane key defender Jack Payne's season has ended without playing a single game after an on-going knee injury has kept him out of action.
The 26-year-old hasn't played since Round 14 last season when he ruptured his patellar tendon.
He then had follow up surgery on his knee in pre-season and has been battling through rehabilitation ever since, with the Lions ruling him out for the rest of the season according to Seven.
Meanwhile, AFL.com.au is reporting that fellow Lions key defender Darcy Gardiner is expected to miss between four to six weeks with a hamstring injury.
After guarding Geelong star Jeremy Cameron well in the club's 22-point victory on Thursday night, Gardiner suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth term.
The 30-year-old has had a horror run of injuries across the past few seasons, playing only 38 games due to shoulder and ankle problems and a torn ACL.
In good news for Brisbane fans, co-captain Hugh McCluggage is expected to return this weekend for the club's date with Essendon after recovering from his hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, veteran Dayne Zorko is also expected to play his first game since Round 9 after recovering from a quad injury.
