Last year's No.5 draft pick Mac Andrew has extended his contract with the Gold Coast Suns until the end of 2025.

The 18-year-old said it wasn't difficult choosing to stay at Carrara, and that he had no hesitation in inking his future to the side he is yet to represent.

"The way the boys and staff treated me when I first came in made me feel really welcome," Andrew told AFL.com.au.

"I didn't hesitate when they approached me."

Andrew is Egyptian-born Sudanese, having moved to Melbourne with his family as a toddler.

And with his history of movement, the vaunted prospect says he feels comfortable away in another state.

"I've found a good group of friends. There's a lot of young kids here that have come from interstate and know what I was going through when I first came up," he said.

"Just settling in with them, they made me feel really welcome."

The 202cm defender has impressed in his early days at the club, having played all four VFL games.

He spent time on Sydney veterans Callum Sinclair and Sam Reid and had 23 disposals against the Blues one week.

"It's a lot different to underage footy... Just how much faster and physical the game is … you've really got to be on the ball."

Andrew and the Suns' VFL outfit will sit out this ANZAC weekend with the bye before returning to face Werribee at home in Round 6.
