All-Australian defender Lachie Whitfield is being shopped by the Giants, as Adam Kingsley's side looks to rejuvenate their list through the National Draft before Tasmania enters the competition.
GWS are open to parting ways with Whitfield, but for a handy selection; Carlton and Melbourne are believed to be leading the chase, although the Blues loom as the favoured destination.
Whitfield's age and salary may make it hard for a potential suitor to stump up a first-round pick in this year's draft.
Despite Carlton's anticipated busy off-season, with Joel Amartey and Cody Walker, these three deals could help get the Whitfield trade complete.
Trade two
Giants trade: Lachie Whitfield, Pick 7
Carlton trade: Picks 11, 24, Sydney 2027 first-round pick
This second deal may be more favourable for the Giants than the first; it would only see them slide back from pick 7 to 11, and see them gain pick 24 in this year's draft, and Sydney's first-round pick in 2027, which the Blues acquired in last year's trade period from the Charlie Curnow trade.
The Giants would still be able to bring in high-quality talent in this year's draft, as they would hold Picks 11, 24 and 28, as they aim to refresh their list.
This deal wouldn't give the Blues enough points to match a bid for Cody Walker in the top three. It would likely still have to complete a second pick swap to gain another pick in the top 12. St Kilda, Collingwood and Melbourne hold Picks 8, 9 and 10.
