With the AFL Free Agency period commencing this Friday, we take a look at the top 10 players who are on the free agency market.

  1. Jamie Elliott (Collingwood)

Elliot was again hampered by injury during the middle part of the season, but he still featured in 16 games and kicked 26 goals. However, he has been linked with moving to a number of Victorian clubs, with Hawthorn and Melbourne heading the list of suitors.

  1. Adam Tomlinson (GWS)

It is widely known that Tomlinson played his last game for the Giants in their Grand Final flop against the Tigers, as the versatile defender seeks a move down south to Victoria. Melbourne is tipped to secure the services of the 26-year-old after Tomlinson played in every Giants game except their Elimination Final match against the Bulldogs where he was controversially dropped.

  1. Brandon Ellis (Richmond)

Ellis finished off his career at the Tigers with a second flag, as he is expected to accept a lucrative deal with the Gold Coast Suns. Ellis missed just two games for the 2019 season and was a key cog in the Tigers’ resurgent finish to the season which eventually led to a flag. Ellis’ deal with the Suns is rumoured to being worth $3 million over five years.

  1. Justin Westhoff (Port Adelaide)

Westhoff may be on the outer at Port Adelaide after the 32-year-old was dropped twice despite playing 20 games for the season. The forward managed just 12 goals from those matches and with the Power opting to go with a bit more youth this season, he may look to seek opportunities elsewhere.

  1. Harry Taylor (Geelong)

Taylor is set to make up his mind on whether he wants to continue his AFL career in the coming week, but if he is to continue, it is unlikely that he will seek a move from the club he has called home for his entire career. Taylor played in all of Geelong’s matches in 2019, and showed no signs of ageing in another consistent season.

  1. Grant Birchall (Hawthorn)

The 31-year-old veteran has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Hawks, and could very well be on the outer after playing just three games for the 2019 season. Has been linked to a move up north to Brisbane, but it appears he will not remain a Hawk as they continue to look to blood youth into their ageing list.

  1. Tory Dickson (Western Bulldogs)

Dickson completed his eighth season at the Bulldogs with 17 games and 24 goals, but he is yet to be offered a new deal by the club and may need to start to look elsewhere. The small forward was hampered by a tight hamstring and missed Dogs’ final two matches, but he was dropped in the middle part of the season which may signal he is out favour at the club he won a flag with in 2016.

  1. Will Schofield (West Coast)

The defender has yet to sign a new deal with the Eagles, which may indicate he is on the outer and is likely to have played his last game with the club in their semi-final loss to the Cats. Schofield played in just 14 games this season, and all signs are pointing to the Eagles letting the 30-year-old go after 13 seasons with the club.

  1. Chris Masten (West Coast)

Masten was delisted by the Eagles fresh after their semi-final loss to the Cats, after being with the club since 2008. Masten featured in 17 games in 2019, including their semi-final loss to the Cats where vision emerged of him being emotional as he will need to hope another club picks him up in the free agency period.

  1. Ryan Lester (Brisbane)

A member of Brisbane’s leadership group in 2019, Lester only featured in the senior side on nine occasions and may look for greater opportunities elsewhere. Lester fell out of favour in Chris Fagan’s side after getting dropped in round 17, his last game for the season.

The Free Agency period starts this Friday and will run for one week until Friday 11th October.
