Richmond has signed 217cm giant Patrick Carr as a Category B Rookie.

The college basketballer-turned-ruck-prodigy will join Richmond's playing list after the club's bye in Round 13.

Standing six centimetres taller than previous AFL height record holders Aaron Sandilands and Mason Cox, Richmond will be eager to get the 20-year-old onto the training track to develop alongside captain and ruck Toby Nankervis.

"We are delighted to welcome Paddy to Richmond,” The Tigers national recruiting manager Rhy Gieschen said.

"He's an exciting young athlete, having had some experience playing football as a junior before focusing on pursuing his basketball career in America.

"He showed some real improvement in the trials he had with us in his football fundamentals. He's a great size and shape for our game and we see some real upside in him.

"Our primary focus with Paddy will be introducing him back into football and preparing his body for the rigours of our game before slowly introducing him into training and potentially games later in the year.

"We are taking a long-term approach with him and are extremely delighted to watch his development and improvement.

"Most importantly, he has been a great person through the process and extremely eager to get started at Tigerland.”

Carr played 15 games for the University of Texas across two seasons (11 in the 2024/25 season and another four across 2025/26) before returning home to Melbourne.

The seven-foot-one-inch ruck - first player in history to reach the seven foot mark - hasn't featured in a game of Aussie rules since he played for his Banyule under-14s side.
