Should Essendon chase after Adelaide forward Taylor Walker?
The Bombers have been urged to look at bringing in experienced and established AFL stars to assist with the rebuild, as well as the incoming senior coach.
Former St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt put Collingwood's Steele Sidebottom on the agenda.
“There was a bloke who was playing at Adelaide, who most would expect us to retire in the next couple of weeks. You're going to get Tex Walker,” four-time Hawthorn premiership player Jordan Lewis told On The Couch.
“It doesn't matter how good the coach coming in is, and the development program needs him there — they need the on-field leaders to teach them how to play. Nate Caddy will be a better player if he has Tex Walker by his side.”
It is the left-field thinking that former Collingwood coach and Geelong assistant Nathan Buckley has encouraged from Essendon.
“That's the type of big-picture thinking that Essendon need to have. That doesn't mean that every idea going to come to fruition ... but I can see that as an opportunity," he said.
“If you've got a young key forward who you think is going to be one of your bookends in Nate Caddy, you need to put every resource around him to get the most out of him.”
Walker has yet to determine his future beyond this year, and is still playing a pivotal role for the Crows as they look to cinch a top-four spot.
He's played 14 games this year, kicking 24 goals, including 10 in his last three outings.
