A tumultuous season at Essendon has claimed another scalp, with decorated assistant Cam Roberts announcing his departure from the club at season's end.
Roberts has performed a variety of roles over the course of his seven seasons in Tullamarine, with stints in development and the forwards room populating his record under five different head coaches - interim or otherwise.
His role in developing Essendon's draftees will likely be his enduring legacy for those of a red and black persuasion.
Roberts expressed his gratitude for his tenure when confirming his departure.
"When I first arrived, I simply wanted to contribute and help people improve. To have had the chance to work alongside such committed players, coaches and staff over the past seven seasons has been a privilege,” Roberts said.
"I'm proud of the relationships we've built and the progress we've made together. I'll always be grateful for the support the club has shown me and my family.
“I'll leave knowing Essendon has an exciting future ahead."
CEO Tim Roberts labelled the outgoing figure an "exceptional person" in a statement released on the club's website.
"Cam has been an exceptional person to have at Essendon and we're incredibly grateful for everything he's given our football club over the past seven seasons," Roberts said.
"He's built genuine relationships across the club and has played an important role in the development of so many of our players.
"We appreciate that prior to appointing a senior coach, there is always a level of uncertainty at AFL clubs. While we're disappointed to see him leave, we completely respect his decision and thank him for everything he's contributed to Essendon. We wish Cam, Kate and their family every success in the future."
