It is arguably the greatest honour that can be afforded somebody involved with the game of Australian rules football.
It signifies excellences, emboldens legacies and rewards influence. It cements a life dedicated to the nation's code as one worthwhile.
From those eligible for the first time, to those unfathomably overdue, we count down those who simply must be enshrined in the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
David McKay
"Swan", funnily enough, was the nickname bestowed upon the high-flying and ever so graceful David McKay.
One of the Blues' favourite sons, McKay was elevated to Legend status in Carlton's own Hall of Fame, and is overdue entry to the broader competition's top echelon. Four premierships at Princes Park, boasting the distinction as the only Blue to feature in three Grand Final victories over arch rivals Collingwood.
A goal-kicking half-back who was renowned as a daring aerialist, McKay also pinch hit in the ruck across his 263-game career. It's versatility and extensive team success that should have seen him in the Hall years ago.
