Emerging Fremantle star Murphy Reid will miss the Dockers' Round 23 clash with Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Friday night.

The recently turned 20-year-old failed to recover in time from a groin injury sustained during Fremantle's thrilling loss to Melbourne at the MCG last Saturday.

The injury occurred when Reid tackled Melbourne's Kade Chandler.

The Dees forward's foot flicked back up and hit Reid in the groin, with the Docker left feeling sore and moving slowly for minutes after.

Small forward Chris Scerri has been brought into replace Reid after an impressive debut season in the AFL.

Scerri has played seven games in his first year at the grade.

The Dockers' defensive group of Brennan Cox, Luke Ryan and Oscar McDonald have all been in solid form albeit down last round against the Demons.

Adelaide will pose a threat for Fremantle's defence with trio of key forwards Darcy Fogarty, Riley Thilthorpe and Toby Murray looking to wreak havoc in Perth as the Crows hunt for a top four spot and safety in the top six.

Last time the two sides met was in Round 4 when the Dockers downed the Crows by two points at Adelaide Oval in a thriller.
