Sydney reportedly tabled Pick 46 to Melbourne in trade negotiations for contracted Demons ruckman Brodie Grundy - an offer that was "quickly dismissed" by the Victorian club.

Grundy is contracted for the next four years on a contract that started with Collingwood and will continue at a third club for the two-time All-Australian given his desire to depart Melbourne after just 12 months with the club.

The Demons gave up Pick 27 last year to the Magpies to bring Grundy in following a club-driven trade move as the ruckman fell out of favour at Collingwood. This year, it is a player-driven move as Grundy looks to make the venture north.

Melbourne might be looking to attain a selection close to what they gave up in 2022, with Sydney currently holding Picks 12, 25, 33, 46 and 54 for this year's count.

According to 7 News' Mitch Cleary, the Demons are likely to be keen on the Swans' second earliest selection, however Sydney reportedly put forward their fourth best pick.

"The Swans' first suggestion of Pick 46 has been quickly dismissed by the Demons given Grundy has four years left on his deal," Cleary revealed on Tuesday.

"Melbourne are instead looking for something in the 20s, Sydney with plenty of work to do in the next eight days as they look to bring in Grundy and Taylor Adams."

The Swans are also working to get Collingwood midfielder Taylor Adams this trade period, with the Magpies likely seeking a pick of similar value that might be requested by the Demons for Grundy.

Sydney could put forward future selections or take part in late pick swaps to help please both Melbourne and Collingwood.
