Sydney's Justin McInerney is set for an extended stint on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in Sydney's victory over St Kilda.

It's a frustrating outcome for the premiership-contending Swans with McInerney listed as 8-10 weeks away. Such a long setback at the very high-end of typical outcomes for a hamstring strain.

A 10-week layoff would mean he would return for the Swans' last home and away match of the season, leaving little margin for the club to get footy into him before September.

He reported hamstring soreness during the match, with follow-up scans revealing a tear.

He has been one of the breakout players of the competition this year, averaging 23 disposals and breaking the game open with his dynamic speed.

Tom McCartin is also set to miss this week's game after suffering a concussion in the game, and while Sydney then have the bye, the cautious approach will be taken with the defender, who was in All-Australian form, given his history of head knocks.

In better news, Errol Gulden is 2-3 weeks away from returning from a shoulder injury which has sidelined him since Round 1.

Dane Rampe and Tom Papley are three and four weeks away respectively from returning from calf injuries.

The Swans currently sit second on the table with an 11-2 record.
