Sydney defender Jeremy Laidler has called time on his AFL career after 10 seasons in the league with three different clubs.

Laidler was selected with the 32nd pick in the 2008 Rookie Draft by Geelong, and played two games over two seasons with the Cats.

He was then traded to Carlton where he played 24 games over three seasons, before being delisted at the end of the 2013 season.

The 28-year-old was then picked up by Sydney as a delisted free agent in 2013 and played 61 games over four seasons, including last year's grand final.

“Coming into the AFL system I wasn’t sure if my career would last two years – so I feel really fortunate to have played for 10. Although it was a rollercoaster along the way I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at all three clubs,” Laidler told sydneyswans.com.au.

“This year I did some work with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and I loved my time there, so to be given this opportunity by the Swans I am very grateful and excited by the challenge.”

Laidler will remain in Sydney, and has taken up a role as a development coach at the club.
