Fremantle's trip to the nation's capital was not a fortuitous one as the Dockers' 14-game win streak was broken and star midfielder Hayden Young failed to finish the game due to injury.

The visitors were met by the full force of the Orange Tsunami on Saturday as Greater Western Sydney fought for its season in an ultra-impressive display.

While a loss was expected at some point during Fremantle's campaign, the cost of losing Young to a groin injury will hurt the most.

The 25-year-old can't get a clean run at AFL level, having missed the majority of the season due to a wide range of injuries.

The ladder-leaders hold their spot in first place, still a win and percentage clear of second-placed Sydney.

Next Thursday will see the two top sides square off at Optus Stadium, likely for the minor premiership.

Key forward Josh Treacy's form has dipped in recent weeks, going goalless against Gold Coast in Round 16 before being well held by Sam Taylor on Saturday.

However, the story of the afternoon was Jake Stringer's career-best game.
