St Kilda assistant Ben McGlynn has decided to leave RSEA Park and his role at Moorabbin once the season wraps up.

The decision comes as McGlynn looks toward an opportunity to raise his children in his hometown of Mildura.

Speaking to Saints Media, the 36-year-old reflected on his journey at St Kilda.

"I've loved my time at the Saints, and will be forever grateful for the opportunity to continue my passion for footy at the highest level," McGlynn said.

"My wife Hannah and I have always had the goal of raising our children, Sonny and Luna, back in our hometown and now feels like the perfect time to do that."

McGlynn coached with the Saints after retiring with the Sydney Swans in 2016 after 171 games of AFL. Since joining the club, McGlynn has played a vital role in developing aspiring players of the game, especially with Sandringham in the VFL.

Now he is dedicated to providing Country Victorian players with the opportunity to excel in the nation's game.

McGlynn is especially eager to develop AFL in Mildura and ensure he is advancing grassroots footy in Country Victoria. McGlynn represented the Bendigo Pioneers and may gravitate towards a coaching role in the NAB League.

"I'm passionate about strengthening the game and fostering talent in Mildura, so I'm hoping to bring some of my experience in the AFL to the region through Footy Star Academy Mildura," he said.

"I've been really proud to represent Sunraysia throughout my career and am excited to support the next generation of young local Footy Stars."

It might not stop at coaching, as McGlynn played with his younger brother for Wentworth Kangaroos in 2017.

Speaking with Swans Media at the time, McGlynn flagged his desire to play local footy again.

"We might pull the boots on again," and hoped to be able to play with all his brothers in the local league," he said.

St Kilda's chief operating officer Simon Lethlean spoke on the value McGlynn brought to the club and his confidence in McGlynn's ability to make an impact in Mildura.

"Ben has been a great asset to our club for six years, always very giving of his time and expertise," he said.

"We're sure he will continue to deliver his signature care and enthusiasm for development."

McGlynn has a prosperous future ahead of him, which he can enjoy with his family in his hometown.
