Reports emerged on Saturday that Richmond star Dustin Martin could put pen to paper on a new deal with the club within the next fortnight, despite manager Ralph Carr maintaining the year his client will make up his mind at the end of the season.
โIโll declare it.ย Dustin Martinย will stay at Richmond, and weโre going to hear about it I think in the next two weeks,โ Fairfax journalist Caroline Wilson said onย 3AW radioย on Saturday afternoon.
โI am certain now that the offer has got to the point where itโs acceptable to him, and I think he wants to accept it, I think his manager agrees. I think everyoneโs in furious agreement now."
However, Richmond CEO Brendon Gale told ABC radio on Sunday the club is still unsure of Martin's intentions beyond this season.
โWeโve been given no indication otherwise and thatโs where things are at,โ Gale said.
โUnless you know something I donโt? Not to my understanding, no.
โThis is something weโve been dealing with all year.
โDusty is in a great place, heโs happy, playing really good footy and contribting strongly to our team and thatโs whatโs important at this stage.
โWeโve been in constant discussions. The offer is a very compelling one and itโs an environment in which Dustin has really prospered in, heโs really grown.
"Itโs a credit to himself, heโs a remarkable young man and all things considered, the offer weโve put to him is a very strong one.โ
Wilson stated that Martin will accept a "six to seven-year deal worth around $1.1 to $1.2 million a year to stay at Tigerland.โ
He has also reportedly been offeredย a six-year deal worth more than $6 million from North Melbourne.
