North Melbourne have launched a big-money play to out-of-contract Port Adelaide midfielder Jared Polec, according to a report by Sam McClure on SEN.

โ€œThere is a player who just played his 100th game on the weekend, his name is Jared Polec, heโ€™s an Adelaide local,โ€ McClure toldย SEN Breakfast.

โ€œHeโ€™s in the middle of contract negotiations with Port Adelaide and is keen to stay, but there are a couple of Victorian clubs circling.

โ€œThe one well out in front is North Melbourne who have offered a long term deal in excess of $700,000 per season.โ€

McClure said Polec's preference is to remain at Port Adelaide, but the Roos are going to push hard to lure him to Victoria.

โ€œAt this stage, heโ€™s more likely to stay, heโ€™s very happy at Port Adelaide,โ€ he said.

โ€œAs weโ€™ve seen before, North Melbourne are not going to die wondering, they want good players and theyโ€™re having a crack.โ€

The 25-year old is enjoying a career-best season for Port, averaging 24.6 disposals and five marks a game.
