North Melbourne have launched a big-money play to out-of-contract Port Adelaide midfielder Jared Polec, according to a report by Sam McClure on SEN.
“There is a player who just played his 100th game on the weekend, his name is Jared Polec, he’s an Adelaide local,” McClure told SEN Breakfast.
“He’s in the middle of contract negotiations with Port Adelaide and is keen to stay, but there are a couple of Victorian clubs circling.
“The one well out in front is North Melbourne who have offered a long term deal in excess of $700,000 per season.”
McClure said Polec's preference is to remain at Port Adelaide, but the Roos are going to push hard to lure him to Victoria.
“At this stage, he’s more likely to stay, he’s very happy at Port Adelaide,” he said.
“As we’ve seen before, North Melbourne are not going to die wondering, they want good players and they’re having a crack.”
The 25-year old is enjoying a career-best season for Port, averaging 24.6 disposals and five marks a game.
