Recently discarded Essendon midfielder Ben Hobbs has reportedly garnered the interest of Gold Coast following his axing at Tullamarine.

Hobbs was not offered a new deal by the Bombers in the wake of their trade period window, with Suns wingman Brayden Fiorini joining the Dons as a free agent as their sole acquisition.

Among a handful of Essendon players left in limbo across the player movement period, Hobbs learnt his fate alongside Luamon Lual earlier this month as the Bombers added to their off-season delistings.

A first-round pick from the 2021 AFL Draft, the Horsham junior's tenure in the red and black reached its cessation after just 65 games, including 18 matches this year.

Hobbs' availability has piqued the interest of the Suns, per News Corp, as a potential addition to their ranks for 2026.

Clubs will have access to Hobbs as either a delisted free agent, draft selection, or Supplemental Selection Period acquisition closer to December.

The SSP provides players and clubs the ability to have train-on opportunities through the pre-season, with the window being the final chance for sides to add to their list before the start of the season.

Gold Coast will have a strong idea of their list vacancies following the AFL Draft on November 19-20, with the Rookie and Pre-Season Drafts taking place on November 21.

The Suns have several Academy players in their sights this year, with as many as four in contention for the first round of the draft.

Gold Coast have also been linked to axed Geelong onballer Ted Clohesy, whose brother, Sam, has been with the Suns the past two seasons.
