Brisbane defender Dayne Zorko has penned a one-year extension, putting him within reach of Simon Black's Lions games record.
Zorko has played 318 games for the Lions, and is set to add at least one more on Saturday when the Lions host Adelaide at the Gabba in the semi-final.
Black featured in 322 matches for the Queensland club, but his record is expected to be eclipsed in 2027 by the rebounding defender.
Zorko was overlooked in multiple drafts before Gold Coast signed him in 2011 as a Queensland zone selection.
He was then on-traded to Brisbane and quickly made an impact at AFL level, debuting within seven weeks of joining the club.
Zorko quickly became a cult figure, and endured the Lions' toughest period during the 2010s before the tide turned when Chris Fagan became senior coach.
He captained the club between 2018 and 2022, and earned five Merrett-Murray Medals as well as a pair of All-Australian blazers.
But Zorko's finest moments came in the past two years, helping deliver back-to-back premierships to Brisbane.
The Lions are in the hunt for a three-peat, an achievement the club claimed two decades ago.
The 37-year-old's re-signing follows teammate and free agent Zac Bailey's recommitment to the club for eight years, despite Adelaide's strong advances and $10 million offer.
“I'm so excited to continue to be on this path with such a great team and such a great football club,” Zorko said.
“With others re-signing, it's a really exciting time for the club and I'm very happy and grateful to be given the opportunity to continue into a 16th season.
“The goal for all of us is to keep driving towards premiership success, and I want to keep helping this group on that journey in any way I can.”
