Carlton's Irish prospect Rob Monahan has signed a one-year extension, locking him away at Ikon Park for 2027.

Monahan arrived at the Blues at the end of 2023, crossing from Ireland as an exciting athletic prospect.

The 22-year-old has played a strong and consistent role in the club's VFL contingent, spending his time in defence.

Monahan has played 39 games, but was only able to managed four matches in 2026 due to a shoulder injury.

Carlton is excited by his potential, stating: "Regarded for this athleticism and great running power, he has demonstrated he can play on both sides of the body, having previously represented Kerry in Gaelic football".

“Rob has shown enough in his time with the Reserves to earn this opportunity, and we're looking forward to seeing his continued progress,” Blues footy boss Chris Davies said.

“He has the right drive and attitude you want from an elite athlete, the way he has responded from his injury has been great and we can't wait to see him attack his pre-season in November.”

More to come.
