Port Adelaide star Chad Wingard will miss at least the next few weeks of football after suffering an ankle sprain during the Power's 23-point loss to Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.

Port Adelaide assistant coach Matthew Nicks told Triple M radio on Sunday, while the club is yet to get confirmation on the severity of the injury, they are hopeful it is a minor sprain.

“At this point he’s probably one of those two to three week (injuries)," he said.

"It’s a high ankle sprain. We watched the replay back…he had the weight on it and got rolled inwards.

“Fingers crossed that it’s nothing major, that it’s maybe a couple of weeks.

"Definitely, we’ll lose him for a few."

Wingard had 13 disposals and kicked one goal during the loss at the MCG. He has averaged 22 disposals and kicked 19 goals so far in 2017.

Port face St Kilda, Adelaide, Collingwood, Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast over the next five weeks, but only the match against the Bulldogs is away from Adelaide Oval.
