Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies has assured the Power will acquire one of its two ruck targets before the trade period's cessation on Wednesday evening.

The Power has made it known it is targeting Western Bulldogs ruckman Jordon Sweet and Richmond tall Ivan Soldo this October, yet a deal for neither has been done thus far.

An agreement for Soldo presents as more complex for Port Adelaide than for Sweet, as the Tiger remains contracted at Punt Road, while Sweet's Bulldogs deal expired this year.

While a Sweet exchange is yet to be finalised, according to Davies on Tuesday morning, the Power will "for sure" get a deal over the line for the Bulldog by Wednesday night.

"I think Jordon Sweet will be at Port Adelaide at the end of the trade period for sure," Davies stated on Tuesday via AFL Trade Radio.

Discussing the complexities around facilitating Soldo's Alberton move, though, Davies wasn't anywhere near as certain.

"Ivan Soldo, who has said he wants to come to us is in contract, so that one is a bit tougher of the four, but hopefully we can break the impasse," he said.

The 27-year-old Soldo, who continues to back-up number-one ruck option and Richmond co-captain Toby Nankervis at Tigerland, is slated to enter unrestricted free agency at the end of next season when his contract expires.

Meanwhile, in addition to impending plays for Sweet and Soldo, Port Adelaide is aiming to cement deals for Essendon's Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Geelong's Esava Ratugolea.

Talks with the Bombers and Cats aren't progressing at an ideal rate for the defending pair, though, and with deadline day swiftly approaching, the prospect of a nervous Pre-Season or National Draft wait becomes more realistic in order to acquire the duo.

"Right now we haven't been able to break the impasse with Geelong (for Ratugolea), and we have 36 hours to make it happen," said Davies.

"Zerk-Thatcher wants to come home for some family reasons, he desperately wants to come back to Adelaide. If we can't find a deal in the next period of time, the drafts become a live option.

"We will have to look at every option we have at our disposal."

This year's exchange window officially closes on Wednesday at 7:30 PM (AEDT), with a host of mooted deals yet to reach completion.
