Pies veteran Lynden Dunn is on the verge of securing another rookie list spot at Collingwood, with the club looking to bring him back as a backup defender, according to The Herald Sun's Jon Ralph.

Dunn was delisted by the Pies at the end of the 2019 season after undergoing a second knee reconstruction in March, leaving him four games short of the 200-game milestone.

Dunn played a key role in defence for the Pies in 2018 before tearing his ACL for the first time in round 15. Dunn was looking to get back into the team for round 1, 2019, but ultimately tore his ACL again that would seem him miss the entirety of 2019.

Dunn is the only extra player training with the Pies currently that would be elevated onto the supplemental list, with the Pies set to make a decision by March 15th.

Dunn is expected back to full training in mid-February, but the Pies will bring him along slowly to give him ample opportunity to prove his worth.

The club will progress Dunn's knee accordingly instead of taking risks to make sure he has the best chance to succeed in 2020.

The Pies believe Dunn adds valuable experience and depth as a player who can take on rival full forwards.

Dunn would likely be able to return from a 12-month absence in round 1 should he have the opportunity, given he injured his knee in a VFL practice match on March 28, 2019.
