Carlton defender Jordan Boyd has recommitted to the Blues for a further two seasons.

Boyd has been a shrewd recruit for the Victorian powerhouse, having joined Carlton out of Spotswood and Footscray's VFL program via the 2021 Mid-Season Draft.

The Blues used their second selection at the draft - Pick 20 - to acquire Boyd, who has gone on to cement himself in Carlton's backline this season.

After making just 16 appearances before this year, Boyd has played in all eight matches under Michael Voss to prove his value to the club, with the Blues making the move to re-sign the 25-year-old.

Speaking via the club's announcement, list manager Nick Austin said Boyd's story was one of dedication.

“Jordan's path into the AFL is one of perseverance and tenacity, he got an opportunity and refused to let it go, which says a lot,” Austin said.

“He continually worked hard to show those around him his full potential, even when there weren't immediate opportunities available to him, that says a lot about his character.

“We have all been really impressed watching Jordan's skills and confidence develop throughout his time at Carlton and we know his best football is still ahead of him given he still has plenty of growth ahead of him at AFL level.

“Having Jordan around at the Club sees him bring a positive energy that is infectious to those around him and we are all excited to watch Jordan progress in the program over the next few years.”

Boyd is averaging 15 disposals, 4.5 marks, 2.6 tackles and 4.6 intercept possessions per game in 2024, flourishing in the absence of senior defender Adam Saad in recent weeks.

With a kicking efficiency of 83.3% so far this year, Boyd has emerged as one of the better ball users in the competition.

"Jordan Boyd is the one that I'd be trying to give the footy to more than what they are at the moment," Champion Data's Daniel Hoyne told SEN this week.

"His ball use coming out of defence is miles ahead of any other player in the competition at the moment. Miles ahead.

"His ball use coming out of defensive 50 is almost 30 per cent above expectation, which is just off the charts."

Boyd becomes the latest Carlton player to recommit to the club, with forward Corey Durdin inking a new two-year deal last week at Princes Park.
