Exciting young midfielder Tom Powell has signed a new two-year contract extension at North Melbourne.

The 19 year-old has made an immediate impact at the club averaging 17 disposals and 4 tackles in his 12 games played so far.ย  Powell has proved to be "one of the best young players to have come through the system at Arden street".

โ€œHeโ€™s calm and composed under pressure and really effective with the ball in hand, despite playing on much bigger bodied opponents. With more time in the midfield, weโ€™re excited to see what he can do in the coming seasons" - North list manager Glenn Luff

The number 13 draft pick's extension comes after the signing of fellow kangaroo Will Phillips, Charlie Lazzaro and Ben Mckay's contracts earlier this week.ย

The three are "similar in age" and "have been through everything together" holding a desire to "stay together for as long as possible", as stated by Powell by North Melbourne Media.ย

โ€œI'm super excited โ€ฆ The other boys signing sort of gave me a kick in the backside and I'm really excited to be on board with them and I can see the future at the club,โ€ Powell told North Media.

โ€œWe all have been through everything together since we got to the club, so we know each other really well.

โ€œIt's good to have a few players that are similar age to you that have been through everything together so weโ€™ll be a really tight knit group for years to come, hopefully, and I'm sure the other boys will get the opportunity to sign on at some point and we can stay together for as long as possible.โ€

Despite their 18th position on the ladder there is no doubt North Melbourne are starting to progress since their first win against the Hawks a few weeks ago.

North list manager, Glenn Luff said Powell was one of the Kangaroos' most exciting young talents.

โ€œWe couldnโ€™t be more impressed with Tom and what heโ€™s been able to achieve in the first half of the season,โ€ Luff said.

โ€œHis ability to adapt to the speed and demands of the game in his first year has been really impressive.

The Kangaroo's are set to play the Brisbane Lions this Saturday in Hobart, with Powell on the radar to receive a rising star nomination in the coming weeks.
