2018 premiership player Scott Lycett will return to Port Adelaide as the club's ruck coach for season 2027.

Lycett spent the final five years of his playing career in the teal of the Power, having been selected by the West Coast Eagles in the second round of the 2010 National Draft.

It is an acquisition that furthers the changing of the coaching guard at the Power, with many coaches finding their way in and out of Josh Carr's environment since he officially succeeded Ken Hinkley at the helm at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The 34-year-old was looking forward to returning to Port Adelaide in a part-time coaching capacity.

“I'm really excited for the opportunity to engage with the AFL space again, but this time in a new role,” Lycett said.

“Port Adelaide has an exciting group of rucks between Jordon Sweet, Dante Visentini and Alex van Wyk. I'm looking forward to guiding them and helping them become the best athletes they can be.

“The chance to return to my old club and learn under Josh Carr, who I worked with in the last season of my career, is incredibly appealing. I can't wait to get started.”

Football boss Ben Rutten congratulated Lycett on his new position.

“We are very pleased to secure Scott's services as ruck coach, given his 13 years of experience as an AFL ruck,” Rutten said.

“Not only did Scott win a premiership with West Coast, he returns to Alberton knowing the club so well having come through the juniors at the Magpies and then spending five seasons as a player here.

“His mentorship with our ruck group will significantly influence their ongoing development.

“We look forward to welcoming him next week as we launch into pre-season with our first to fourth-year players.”
