North Melbourne free agent Ben McKay is expected to open up contract negotiation deals during the second half of the season, but is adamant he is loving his time at the club.

McKay's original contract with the Kangaroos will finish at the end of the 2023 season, with rival clubs keeping a close eye on his movements, such as Port Adelaide, who have plans to rebuild their tall defensive line and are keen to snatch McKay.

Whilst the key defender and his management team have remained tight-lipped about his free agency and contract negotiation deals, McKay toldย SEN Mornings that he is happy at Arden Street and that he and the club are on the same page when it comes to discussions about contract negotiations and trades.

โ€œI went on record three or four weeks ago that myself, my manager and the footy club are on the same page," McKay said on SEN Mornings.

โ€œBut the fact we're on the same page (is good) and we'll get to a stage in the second half of the year when we sit down with my manager and sort it out.

"The main point I'd like to get across is that I'm loving my time at the club, I've noticed a big shift in the place."

McKay recently suffered a serious injury set back just before Round 1, enduring a bone stress injury in his right foot but is set to return in the clash against the Brisbane Lions in the Adelaide Hills this week.

"At the moment I'm just worried about playing footy," McKay said.

โ€œWith this foot injury, I haven't had a chance to play so I'm just looking forward to that most."

North Melbourne will face off against the Brisbane Lions this week at 1:10pm (AEDT) in Mt Barker.
