Collingwood forward Jamie Elliot will not make his return against Richmond this Thursday night at the MCG.

Elliot, who missed all of 2016 due to a back injury, suffered an ankle injury during pre-season, which kept him out of round one.

Coach Nathan Buckley confirmed on Tuesday afternoon Elliot will miss at least another week.

Buckley said Elliott will train this in a bid to return for the side's round three clash with Sydney.

"He (Elliott) won't play this week. He'll train and try and get up for Sydney," Buckley said.

Meanwhile, James Aish, who was a late withdrawal with a virus in round one, and Tim Broomhead loom as likely inclusion for this week's clash.

"Broomy's form has been really good," Buckley added.

"He's always enticed us as selectors because we love what he brings to the table. We know he's ready."
