The Western Bulldogs have shown interest in Hawthorn midfielder Finn Maginness.
The Bulldogs are looking to bolster their midfield depth after the retirements of Tom Liberatore and Adam Treloar, and the delistings of Oskar Baker, Harvey Gallagher, Lachlan Smith and Zac Walker.
The Bulldogs will be one of the most active teams in the 2026 trade period, Zak Butters has already nominated the Western Bulldogs as his preferred destination, and Adelaide defender Jordan Butts has already had a medical with the Bulldogs.
The midfielder has featured in 64 games across his six seasons at the Hawks and is best known for his tagging ability in recent years, but hasn't been utilised in that role by Sam Mitchell this year.
Maginness only played six games for Sam Mitchell's side in 2026, averaging 13.7 disposals at the top level, but played a key role in Box Hill's VFL Grand Final victory over Geelong's VFL side, amassing 22 disposals and 11 tackles.
Mitchell has preferred the likes of Jai Newcombe, Josh Ward, Will Day, Cam Mackenzie, Connor Macdonald and Nick Watson as the midfield group, and with Zach Merrett looming as an inclusion, senior opportunities for Maginness look few and far between.
He was drafted by the Hawks in 2019 as a father-son selection; his father, Scott Maginness, played 131 games for Hawthorn, and his grandfather, Norm Maginness, played 64 games for the Hawks.
The 25-year-old is contracted with the Hawks until the end of 2027.
Maginness previously knocked back interest from rival clubs during the 2024 trade period, and recommitted to the Hawks for a further two years.
Aside from Merrett, the Hawks are expected to bring in Gold Coast key forward Ben King via free agency.
Calsher Dear, Max Ramsden and Will McCabe are all considering their options, with the trio of Hawks uncontracted for next year.
Dear has interest from Collingwood, Melbourne and Geelong.
Decisions on Bailey Macdonald, Bodie Ryan, Cody Anderson, Henry Hustwaite, Jaime Uhr-Henry and James Blanck have yet to be confirmed.
